To get from Memphis to Fayetteville, one pretty much has to go through Little Rock, AR (which you may remember is where the heroine of South Pacific hailed). In addition to being the state capital of Arkansas, Little Rock is also the old stomping grounds of ex-US president Bill Clinton. And [1] Doe's Eat Place (1023 W. Markham St) is said to be one of his favourites. So I went there too. It's like a diner, both in appearance and in the greasiness of the food. Grossly overrated despite all the accolades to the contrary (but then McDonald's is the aforementioned ex-president's second-favourite place, so what do you expect?). Even the coke was flat.

From Little Rock, I drifted off the interstate to US Route 64, which goes through the little towns of Atkins (the pickle capital of the US, but none to be seen during the quick drive-through) and Altus, among others. In Altus is, remarkably, a winery (and you thought Arkansas was just known for moonshine?) called [2] Post Familie Winery. They are [3] quite generous with their tastings and [4] Sherri & Chanel will let you taste one of everything they make. I found a Syrah that I liked and bought a bottle; [5] fellow travellers from Arkansas, Gregory and Karen, liked it too.

Then on to Fayetteville, where [7] Elayne managed to get a remarkable 50 people for a [6] Tango class that I taught for 2 hours, followed by dancing for 2 hours more and then [8] unwinding over pizza at Common Grounds on the happening Dickson Street in downtown Fayetteville with Elayne, her husband Alessandro from Italy, and Brianna.
